We do not require an A1 motorcycle licence, as long as you are able to ride a scooter. However, the police and your personal accident insurance may require one.
Official: As a tourist, you need a valid motorcycle licence and an International Driving Permit (IDP) that covers motorcycles—for example, an A1 or full motorcycle licence from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, or the UK.

Do I need a driving license to rent a scooter on Koh Samui?
Yes. Thai law requires a valid motorcycle license — either an International Driving Permit with a motorcycle category, or your home country license if it includes motorcycles. Renting without one can void your insurance and result in fines if stopped by police.
